Tomales Bay Weekend

Lucas turned the big 27 last Wednesday, so we celebrated him all weekend long!
To kick things off, we grabbed drinks at Black Horse London Pub, which happens to be the smallest bar in San Francisco. It's just around the corner from our apartment. There are only 8 stools and 5 beer choices, and the owner, James, hangs out behind the bar and knows everyone by name. They don't have a fridge, so he just ices down the beers in a bathtub behind the bar...so awesome. We hung out with 2 other couples (and a baby!) for a few hours and it felt just like Cheers.
We followed up the beers with a much-needed dinner at our local pho spot. It was cold and dreary in SF on Friday, so it really hit the spot.
On Saturday we grabbed coffees at the Philz Truck, which is parked near Fort Mason on Saturdays and Sundays, and we had to get a bit creative on how to carry the drinks home on the scoot (didn't really think that one through...). We somehow managed to only spill a little bit.
After our coffee fix, we drove up to Tomales Bay. It's about a 1.5 hour drive north from San Francisco, but it is so scenic and feels like a total escape. Our first stop was The Marshall Store, our favorite spot for fresh oysters.
The restaurant is right on the side of the road and the tables are set up against the water, so the convenience and views can't be beat. They have so many good food options: clam chowder, Cuban sandwiches, grilled fish, but their oysters are the best. We opted for chowder, BBQ oysters, and beers.
From there we drove up the US-1 a few minutes and stopped at Diekmann's General Store to pick up a few bottles of wine. We also couldn't resist hitting up the bakery across the street for some strawberry rhubarb pie (because, birthday obviously).
We stayed at the Inn on Tomales Bay, a very quaint and affordable bed and breakfast with sweeping view of the bay. Our room was very modest but had amazing bay windows and a cozy fireplace. Since there was no TV in the room and no cell phone or internet connection to be found, we played Scrabble (I won, of course) and listened to the extensive CD collection (Elvis, Bob Dylan, Nat King Cole - so great).
At the recommendation of the B&B owners, we went up the road to Nick's Cove for dinner. We snagged a table on the porch overlooking the water, and enjoyed the sun setting over the bay. We ate (more) BBQ oysters, lobster mac-n-cheese, clam chowder, and brussels sprouts (WE'RE SO HEALTHY RIGHT?).
The next morning we checked out of our hotel and drove over to Point Reyes, which is on the other side of Tomales Bay. We stopped at Perry's Deli to pick up sandwiches to go. We both agreed that if Perry's was in San Francisco, we'd eat there weekly. Our Reuben and Cuban sandwiches were to die for.
We drove over to the Bear Valley Visitor Center and then took a hike to the Point Reyes National Seashore. The hike was 4.5 miles each way and took us through meadows, forests, and along the shoreline.

Oh hi, Jurassic Park!
Our favorite part of the hike had to be the cliffs and gorgeous coast line. Sadly there was a natural rock arch that collapsed about a month ago, so part of the trail was closed off, but we still managed to catch some pretty spectacular views.

The trip was so refreshing and revitalizing. Happy Birthday, Lucas!

Weekend Trip: Pescadero and Half Moon Bay

This guy celebrated his 25th birthday yesterday (!!!), so we took a weekend trip to Pescadero, California, which is about halfway between Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay. The weather has been really nice in the Bay, so we thought it would be fun to explore the great outdoors. I guess that I should preface this blog post by saying that I am not what most would consider to be outdoorsy. I really am so selfless... :)
On Saturday, we went hiking in Big Basin Redwoods State Park. You can park right at Pescadero State Beach and then walk into the park (for free!). We did a 7 mile hike up to the top of a hill that overlooked the beach and the strawberry fields below.
 View from the top!
Afterwards we hung out at the beach for a while and watched the kite surfers. Since we worked up quite an appetite, we went to Duarte's for dinner, which is known for its artichoke soup and its olallieberry pie - so good!
On Saturday night we stayed in a tent bungalow at Costanoa, which also has a campground and nicer cabins. We've been joking and calling it glamping - even though we didn't have to pitch our own tent, it was definitely bare bones. The tent came with a bed, heated mattress pad, lamp, and fire pit - that's about it!
On the way home, we took the scenic US 1 back up the coast, and the views were amazing. We stopped at the Pigeon Point lighthouse. There is actually a hostel at the base of the lighthouse - wouldn't it be exciting and chilling to stay there?
Our final stop was in Half Moon Bay. We ate breakfast at a local diner called Sam's and then Lucas went surfing while I sat on the shore and addressed a few save the dates. :)
It was such a fun trip. Weekends like this make me never want to leave California.

Birthday Weekend!

My 24th birthday was on Saturday, so I officially entered my mid-20s! I am truly not a huge birthday person, but I was overwhelmed by the love from my friends and family. On Friday, my coworkers (who are also some of my dearest friends), showered me with gifts, including a limited edition of Domino (RIP!), tiny red velvet cupcakes, and a singing balloon. Lucas sent me a gorgeous bouquet of hydrangeas and ranunculus from Church Street Flowers in SF.
The thoughtful gifts just kept coming. Lucas got me this tiny J ring and this gorgeous Juliet & Co. necklace. My BFF, Kristina, sent me the sweetest package and these fab Tory Burch earrings.
On Friday night, we went to dinner with a few friends at St. Michaels Alley in Palo Alto, which was amazing. Their special was artichoke crusted halibut with creamy cauliflower, which was so tasty, and they brought out the most amazing Crème Brûlée for me. On Saturday Lucas and I had a date night at Flour + Water in SF. It is now one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco. They're well known for their homemade pastas and pizzas and cozy atmosphere. There was a 2+ hour wait, so we went to a local bar called Trick Dog for a few drinks beforehand.  It was well worth the wait and it was so nice to have a long date night with Lucas.
Afterwards we met a few friends in the Mission to go out. We ended up going to a dance club called Baobab, where they played funky Caribbean and Afro dance music.

We capped off the weekend with Easter lunch at our friends' house where I ate my weight in ham and mac-n-cheese. It was an amazing birthday weekend. I had absolutely no plans going into it, but my friends were so thoughtful and really made it such a great birthday. I love you all! xo

Happy Birthday Kristina!

Happy birthday to my BFF since Kindergarten, my college roommate, and my Maid of Honor, Kristina! You are the best friend anyone could ever ask for. XO

Just for fun, here are a few blasts from the past:

P-A-R-T-Y

From P is for Party.

Robyn's B-day Instructions

hey friends! soo tomorrow is my 21st birthday woot woot! and seeing that i'm in ecuador and because you guys are awesome you're all over the place making birthday celebrations difficult, we're going for an international celebration. here's the plan. i would love love love it if all of you and our friends will live it up tomorrow. wear yellow, flowers in your hair, eat a delicious dessert, consume an alcoholic beverage or two or whatever you want to do but use my birthday as an excuse to celebrate and take a pic of whatever you do. send it to mimms and she's going to do something delightfully artsy and creative with them as she does. so it's an international celebration. go big or go home. and apparently ecuadorian facebook limits the number of people you can message so tell anyone i've forgotten. i love you all! and know that we must also celebrate in athens in the fall so i can see your beautiful faces. peace out.
